Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative said the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
